Women are now able to vote, but it still restricts women of different cultures. For example, Native American still weren’t able to vote were as white women were until 1947. An organization that was created is called the League of Women Voters which still exists. Alice Paul proposed the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) and continued to work for peace. Even though there isn’t a whole lot, there’s more equality between women and men in the government. This year people will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment being ratified. The ERA needs 38 states to approve it. Virginia just recently approved of it, but the deadline was in 1982. The future of the Equal Rights Amendment is uncertain.

Part of the Amendment states "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state of the account of sex." The ERA, or Equal Rights Amendment, is based on equality for all genders. When it comes to the states approval, as earlier stated, the ERA was just recently ratified by Virginia on January 27, 2020. Also, over the years five different states have canceled their approval of the ERA. Some of the reasons why people belive the ERA should not be ratified is because of the following: women being drafted to the military, all gender lockerrooms, and they also fear the impact that could happen on abortion restrictions. The opponents also believe the vote was meaningless due the deadline being way overdue, and is invalid because of the five states canceling their approval. There have been multiple lawsuits relating to the ERA. Just last year, Alabama filed a lawsuit opposing the Amendment. Massachusetts also conducted a lawsuit saying how it wasn't fair for Congress or the Executive branch to set deadlines. The most recent lawsuit includes the last three states to ratify the amendment. They are filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration because they want the Amendment to put into the Constitution.
